    Canopy Latch and Lock System (LongEZ) - which way to go?

    After spending some considerable time looking at the Long-EZ canopy latch and locking systems threads on this forum and looking elsewhere too (call me a poly-forumist...), I am completely confused as to which way to go to have a canopy latch system that does the following:
    1. Avoids use of a plans-style door
    2. Has an external handle and key lock
    3. Employs or works with some kind of safety catch
    4. Can be manipulated into the open position by the backseater in emergency situations.

    Anything else that needs to be on this list??

    So taking a 2012 view of this situation, looking back on years of different designs and comments on this topic, which side opening based design would be the best to use?

          Hi,
          This is NOT my design but it's been tried and tested for many years without any problems. I've used this on mine (not yet flying) after many, many hours of research.

              Regarding your last requirement:
              'Can be manipulated into the open position by the backseater in emergency situations.'

              Simple solution would be to use a small cable (like a choke cable) from rear seat to a pivot just aft of the return spring shown in the PDF... Pull the knob, lift canopy... job done.

              Now we've opened a can of worms ... Why would the GIB want to open the canopy?

                Thanks for your reply and attachment! I have no need for GIB to open the lid! I will have an escape hammer for them. I don't want them to open the lid!
