Re: N951TM: Velocity Restoration

Re: N951TM: Velocity Restoration

Thanks. It is such a tight area that I have to keep convincing myself to give it another try....
I knew this was going to be a PIA but I am getting closer.

Re: N951TM: Velocity Restoration

A comparison of the replacement bracket (left) and the original bracket that was removed from the plane.
Check out the areas identified on the original bracket. It's crazy that anyone would screw up...

Re: N951TM: Velocity Restoration

I installed two of the hydraulic cylinders installed (9/16-17) with the exception of the bolt that anchors the nose gear cylinder inside the keel. For the life of me, I could not find it and of course...

Re: Metal Constant Speed Prop

The metal fatigue issue is huge for a metal prop in a pusher configuration. It's hard on the blades as well as the hub.

Worst case scenario, you loose a blade followed by a severe out of balance...

:D
I picked up my hydraulic cylinders this afternoon.
All three have been rebuilt and will be going back into the plane this weekend.

I can't begin to express how huge this is. They are very...

Re: Cory Bird's Raw Epoxy Finishing Technique

I used Waiter's formula of 1 part West 410 Microlight: 4 parts Microballoons
Mixed with West epoxy.
Spreads & sands real nice.

Re: Cory Bird's Raw Epoxy Finishing Technique

Something to keep in mind:
Epoxy will bind to Polyester/Vinyl Ester but Polyester/Vinyl Ester will not bind to epoxy.

So if you build your plane with Epoxy, don't count on a Polyester/Vinyl Ester...

Re: Cory Bird's Raw Epoxy Finishing Technique

Obviously weight is not a factor when using Bondo & Ice.
It has a place in aviation when creating plugs for molds but that's about it.

Re: Nylaflow routing for Hidden Bellhorns

My big concern would be:
What happens to the ease with which the cable can travel when you fly in cold temps?

Yeah, that definitely captures the mood.
When I compare the design of the Velocity retracts and compare them to the Infinity retracts, it's like night and day in every respect. The Infinity gear is...

Re: N951TM: Velocity Restoration

That's not to say that the Velocity wasn't setup correctly. The problem is most likely the builder, not the design.

If I do, it will be to switch to Matco M/C & Toe Brakes.
Much easier to access.

Re: Nylaflow routing for Hidden Bellhorns

Graphite, spray Teflon, etc. if you must.

Re: N951TM: Velocity Restoration

Some things go incredibly slow.
Almost 4 hours to put in the 4 bolts & nuts that secure the master cylinders for the brakes. This was not installed in a manner that would lend itself toward future...
