A standard pop open door would not do the trick. If I understand the pictures, others will mold the plenum around the dipstick and cap, however, I think in my Continental with my dipstick and cap being near the front of my scoops this would restrict a lot of flow.

So, I concocted a sliding door. I can access the area needed with minimal issue. When the outer cowling door closes, with some additional fabrication, it will capture the sliding door closed and locked. I hope it works as intended.
Nice idea, I like that. Thinking out of the "Plenum"

Smile Re: Velocity 17010 Progress?

Received a new panel partner today, a Dynon com radio. I'll have to do a little panel glass work to remove the larger hole from my second King 125 but that is very straight forward.

Anyone in the market for a King KX-125? I bought it new several years ago for around $3500. The current price via a quick Google search is $4195.00. The mounting tray shows $331.00 (the Pilot shop). Geesh that's a lot for a tray. I'll let them both go for uhhhhh, $1400.00.

Since my bird is getting the new engine, yeah still, my panel is getting updated to also make 2020 compliant. I've ordered a Dynon radio, ADS-B in and out with compliant GPS antenna, bug knobs for the Dynon and a second screen (ten inch touch). The remaining items arrived yesterday supplementing the seven inch screen and engine monitor I had.

Here is the tentative layout. There is only room for the seven inch screen over the yoke thus the ten inch is going to the right in the center of the panel. One radio below the ten inch screen with room to the right of the first radio for a second, and the bug knobs below the radios.

This is preliminary lay out on a cardboard panel template but seems to do it once I add a few switches for lights, dimmer etc. I hope to add the second radio, second ahars and autopilot down the road.....perhaps after I actually fly again.

I'm way behind both of you. My LEZ went down on 5/19/94. That caused my retirement. I was rebuilding a V-35ATC at the time and had gotten the LEZ for something to fly until the V-35 was completed. I got that done by 9/11 and have been enjoying it.

After that I started on the LEZ. Rebuilt and re-installed the retractable main & NG. Got a new MAZDA RX-8 from Bruce in 04 and Tracy's RD1C drive, built a mock engine mount and mounted it. Family problems stopped progress for a couple of years. I realized I'd never get it done and got an overhauled TIO-320-B1A and built another engine mount.

I did the repairs to the wings 7 years ago and a lot of body refinement that had not ever been done. I have primer on everything. I've had the B1A off and on about 10 times so far (it's currently off). I have a full Dynon Sky View Suite yet to be installed (have display for the guy in back too).

Go guys, I'll bring up the rear if I live long enough.

Tell us a bit more about the wing attach methodology and gear mounting system that you're using...

The wing attach methodology is the same as the original contruction plans which I have and used in the repairs. I did not do the gear installation, it was done by the original builder. However, all 3 gear were broken and replaced. The nose gear is according to the original plans, including manual crank (that could change in the future since aft C.G. is expected with a heavier engine & prop).

The main gear brackets were extended downward about 3" to incorporate what seems to me to be the Drybread system. The gear have an S-curve to them allowing the tops to be locked down by a lock wedge between them. The bottom part of the S. curve allowed the gear to retract into wheel wells in the fuel tanks and conform to the fuselage and undersides of the wings making them flush with wing and fuselage when retracted.

What's the black tube bolted to the outer wing bolts? Is that just a fixture for turning the plane over?

Aha - retracts - gotcha.

Thanks.

Chris, how do you plan on dampening the vibration/movement between the runners and the plenum?

Thanks.
You got the wing bracket for retraction stands for when we do in the shop retractions. I looked again at the photo and saw why you had the question.

Not sure yet, likely, as I have seen on the Velocity site, silicone sleeves.
