That's the plan. It will become clearer once the new sump is completed.

Tom,

Do you have access to the online Velocity plans?

They have helped me (non-builder) of the years. Tim

Tim, yes I do. I registered with Velocity right away after acquiring the plane. I've downloaded the manuals and it has been very helpful in learning about the construction and methodology behind the aircraft design.

I asked the previous owner about the dump valve and he said there wasn't one. After reading the manuals I found it in the plans location so I guess I won't have to fix that.

On that note, I found someone who deals in the Oildyne hydraulic pump. I'm taking it over there tomorrow. They don't fix them but they do assemble the new pumps and can identify the seals I need to fix the leaks in this one and sell me the proper replacement parts.

$27.27 is all it took for the parts I needed for the hydraulic pump. When I was asked what it was for, I hesitated but ended up telling him it was for an airplane.

He got all excited. Said he used to fly. He asked a bunch of questions about the plane and the eyebrows went up when I told him it was a canard.

He couldn't help me enough after that. Totally 180 degrees from what I was anticipating.

That's pretty awesome.

I learned the hard way years ago building the Cozy. I can't remember what it was I needed, but when I told the counter guy what it was for when he asked, he closed the book and told me he could not sell it to me. There after, it was always for "an ORV I am building" just in case. You never know how people will react.

Yeah, that's what really surprised me.
What's kind of funny about all of this is this pump is used by Mercruiser to lift the outdrive.

It is also used by Piper Aircraft for the retracts.

I wonder if Piper would have sold it to me for under $30.

I got the Hydraulic pump re-installed. Not really all that bad.
I have a hoist lined up and plan on pulling the engine next weekend.

I'm going to have some down time for sure while I wait for the new prop. I'm planning on rebuilding the master cylinders for the brakes and do the same for all (3) the hydraulic cylinders in the landing gear system while I'm at it.

My foam didn't show up so construction of the sump will have to wait until next weekend.

Plenty of small things to catch as I go. I plan on removing the canard. Someone started to do this which is the scary part about this project ,,,,, i.e. finding all the partials that were started. It's good to know what to look for.

I mean ..... when you find a wrench still hanging on one of the canard bolts, you start thinking "Drybread."

TMann, You sound rejuvenated! I was concerned like Big Steve that you are abandoning work on a wonderful LEZ. You have that old "Can Do" feeling again! This must only need minor stuff done and hopefully you'll be flying it soon.

You all do know that if you build more than one plane you are labeled as a "Repeat Offender". Not a bad thing in the EXP community!

Well, slow weekend. I had some stuff on order that I was going to knock out but the wrong stuff was shipped plus another cold weekend.

I finally did get my last-a-foam for the new sump tank. I laid everything out today. I'll be cutting out all my hardpoints (10) this week and start glassing it. I hope to have it assembled and some pics by next weekend.

I also want to have the engine out by the end of next weekend as well. As it warms up I expect the pace to pick up as well.

How does that work when you start with finishing a Cozy then build an RV? I'd say a canard plane build may be the gateway drug for plane building addicts.

Slow weekend- can relate. Getting frustrated doing little things with a space heater and blanket or spending time building and heating a build area. Need to re-assemble mechanical parts. Can't because I need to paint. Too cold to paint or sling micro. Arrrrg!!!! Stayed home all weekend tearing down an old 39 truck.

Finally.... some good weather.
I got the engine off and into my truck.
Monday it's off to the engine shop for a going over.

That seemed like a lot of work to cram into one day.

It is. But after you do it a couple times it gets easier and faster,,,both Off and back On.
